The week so far....

Monday, I substituted in Kindergarten. That was a fun day. I really enjoy Kindergarten. It is a lot of work for the teacher but it can be so much fun too.

Tuesday (today), I was in a 3rd grade class. That was fun too. I was able to teach Science all day and it was a fun and easy lesson so most things went pretty smoothly.

Tonight Kjerstin and I made some pillows for my niece Mya. Mya's mom, Kayla, asked me this weekend if I could make her some small pillows because she is only 2 and the normal pillows are too big for her and she needs a small pillow for nap time at daycare. Kjerstin stuffed one of these pillows all by herself and I just finished it off a little bit. They are made out of a Noah's Ark flannel that I had in my stash. They took about 30 min to do. Mya I hope you like them. They might be a bit lumpy because I used scraps of poly fill batting left over from making quilts. But at 2 I don't think you'll be too picky about that just yet! Here's to sweet dreams, Mya!

Addy's Birthday

My niece Addyson (Addy) turned 1 on Saturday and we drove down to Moorhead to attend the festivities. These are the pictures from that joyous event. Addy proceeded to fall asleep later in the day during her supper. I guess she went face down into her tray of food. At least she had a good time when it counted. Thanks Addy for sharing your toys so graciously with your three cousins from up north!

Peggy's Christmas Present

So, I finally finished Peggy's blanket a couple weeks ago and now it is FINALLY boxed up and ready to ship! Peggy I am sorry it is taking so long for you to get your Christmas present! But isn't it so pretty? This was made using a pattern called "Twist" from this website, www.quilterscache.com. This site has hundreds of free patterns, well, it did the last time I was there. Some you have to pay for others are free for your personal use. Anyway I tied the blanket with brown embroidery floss. I think it turned out pretty nice. It is a little wrinkled in the picture because Kehan got curious as to what was in the box and took it out so it had been folded up pretty small before the picture was taken. Peggy, I hope it keeps you warm while you watch TV or read a book!

Kehan Sleep Bouncing

Project Linus Blanket

This is the blanket I made with the money Annabell gave me for Project Linus. It was the first time I quilted with the sewing machine and the binding didn't come out perfect there are some bunches because I didn't have the backing pulled tight enough. But it turned out ok. I know better for next time. I think I will have to invest in a quilting ring thing that keeps the blanket rolled up tight as you are quilting on the machine. I love the bright colors of this blanket. The back side is a bright green. I saw a blanket like this in a catalog and thought it was cool. It had a bit more to it but I didn't think the extras would be good for a PL blanket. Thank you Annabell! This blanket will certainly keep a child warm and snuggled!

Wacky Nine Baby Quilt

Well here is the top of the quilt I made at my "Wacky Nine Baby Quilt" class that I went to. It is cute but not quite the look I was going for so it will be a Project Linus blanket I think when I get around to finding backing material for it and finishing it off. It was a really easy project to do and I may scan the directions into my computer and post them in pdf on here too. It is a quilt that looks really nice when the colors are chosen correctly. Some of the blankets made that nice were beyond neat! One had brights and black in it, it was so cool, another was all different purples and then another yet was different flannel prints, there was even one with snowman. All you need are 9 15"x15" blocks, we started with 9 fat quarters and cut them down to size. If you have an idea for what color to use for the binding please leave a comment. There are so many colors it might be hard to choose.

Kjerstin's Ballet Class

Here is a picture of Kjerstin at ballet class on Saturday. She has a few coordination things to work on that mom can help with at home. Mostly just feet position and her arm positions during their dance for the recital. She was really cute to watch. Her class is made up of mostly 4 year olds and all of them do very well during the 1 hour and 15 min class. Watching the tap section of class was a bit loud but it was so fun to watch. I have a video I hope to post of her during their warm up time doing the "Twist".

Valentine's Day

Quinten and I both just got each other a bag of candies...we don't really do much. One night I'll have him take me out to dinner some place nice but not in the next couple weeks, things are just too busy.

Yesterday was a crazy day in school with all of the Valentine's Day parties. I would get the kids in Gym about half way through their parties and they were just crazy wild! K-2 was the worst! I think they ran out of ice packs so many kids where running into each other! Today and Monday there is no school for the RLCC school district. I don't teach at all next week but will be back at it on Feb. 25 and 26th. It will not be for the PhyEd teacher but I think Kindergarten and maybe 3rd grade.

Tonight Kjerstin has decided to come with my to the Whacky Nine Baby Quilt class in Oklee. I think she misses mom quite a bit since I worked all week. She loves to watch me sew and always talks about all the blankets she will make for babies when she gets big enough to sew. I am glad that she is excited about making blankets. Hopefully the enthusiasim will stick with her. Tomorrrow is Ballet class for Kjerstin in Grand Forks. It is Parent's Day so we are able to watch the class. I hope to post pictures of tonights class and Kjerstin's ballet class this weekend.

Busy Week so far

Well this week has been really busy for us. I have been teaching PhyEd at RLCC-Plummer site since Monday and tomorrow will be the last day. I sure hope this teacher is have a great time in Mexico while we brave the cold and snow that is falling at the moment. I guess we have a chance for up to 6 inches tonight. If the wind starts blowing we may not have school in the morning. Ashlyn is standing up on her own so well the past two days and she thinks it is a pretty cool trick. Kjerstin made a new friend yesterday when the Plummer site preschool came to visit the Oklee site preschool. Megan is her name. It is fun for me to think about and write down these first new and fast friends so we can look back when high school rolls around and see who she liked when the school years all began. I have been thinking a lot about how she is soon to be 5 years old and it is still 6+ months away. It just hard to imagine. To me that is such a big birthday. At least she will still be in preschool next year due to her Sept. birthday. But my little girl is really getting big this year! Kehan is being Kehan, he decided this morning that 5:30 am would be a good time to get up. I despise 5:30 in the morning. Some how he doesn't see the value in my despising that part of the day. Every day he seems to want to see what it is like earlier in the morning. I just pray, "Please let Kehan loose his fascination with time before the sunrises every morning."

Project Linus

Last weekend on Saturday, February 2 we had a Make a Blanket Day to support Project Linus. I donated 2 quilts and helped put together 3 more. I also have one more 90% finished which I made from fabric that Annabell donated money to buy. The picture posted is of sisters Lousia and Elsie holding up one of the blankets I donated. These two girls did an outstanding job in helping to make blankets that day. I urge everyone who makes blankets to make a couple for your home Project Linus chapter. Next year I am hoping to make it a community wide event. Our local chapter as of Dec. 2007 has donated over 5300 blankets to area hospitals and shelters, including some group homes. The children really love these blankets. Visit thier website and see what a great organization this is.

I will be substituting in Plummer all week for the PhyEd teacher. Then on Friday evening I will be going to a Whacky Nine Baby Quilt class. So it will be a busy week.

The Beginning

Ok, to start I have been thinking of doing this for quite sometime. Now with all the blankets I have been making again with Project Linus and such I thought it would be a good place to post photos and well we have three children too and family all over the place so here is a good place to announce their new acomplishments. So more posts will be coming shortly so mark this spot so you can return often.
