Before I tell all with the doctor appointments I thought I would share a quick family shot we got this past weekend at a family wedding. I wonder if we will ever get a picture with everyone looking again?
This week started out with two days at doctor appointments. First was Kehan's appointment with the pediatric allergy and asthma specialist. After 4 hours and 10 mins, 4 x-rays, breathing tests, and skin allergy test we have answers. He is allergic to molds, ragweeds, and some maple tree. He also has asthma and a severe sinus infection. Now we begin a medication routine. I think I may just have to actually get organized or some how reattach my head because most days I feel like I run around like "a chicken with its head cut off." I do have to say that Kehan did excellent for having to sit in a doctor's office for over 4 hours it was only the last 45 min that he started to try and "climb the walls."
Tuesday brought us to the twins' pediatrician for 9 month old well child check ups. Here are their current stats. Eli is 16 lbs 1 ounce and 28 inches long. That puts him at the 1% for weight and 37% for height. I guess he is tall and skinny without even being that tall. Ellie is 13 lbs 12 ounces and 25.5 inches long. She is at 0% for her weight and 3% for her height. She is little. Both babies surprised me in their weights as I thought Eli was for sure getting to be about 18 lbs and Ellie somewhere around 15 lbs. Good thing there are scales because my sense of weight is way off! Overall the doctor said both babies were in good health just little. I did have them check Ellie's Blood Sugar levels just because they had never been checked since she left the NICU and I was curious. She came out ok at 53 but they would like it higher between 60-80 so I was given a glucose monitor and am to randomly check her sugar levels before meals and especially after long stetches of sleep at night. If, I get readings on the low side consistently we may have to do more testing to figure out what is going on and where the extra insulin is coming from. I am happy to report that since the test on Tuesday I haven't gotten anything lower than 80. I will continue to monitor for a week or so but I think she is just fine.
So at the moment we are doctor free until Sept when we will have another Orthodontist appointment for Kjerstin's retainers and the babies will have a 6 month follow up appointment for their eyes. Nothing is wrong with their eyes at the moment it is just something they follow up with because they were preemies and Ellie had so many low blood sugar levels after birth.
I would like to give a shout out to friends of ours that had 32 week twins last Friday. The babies are doing great and I think mom and dad are coping with NICU life pretty well. They had a boy and a girl just like us! We are so excited for them and pray every day that both babies continue to grow and gain strength so they can come home soon. Life with twins is exciting and I can't wait to share it with them!
